A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to shoot a wedding at the Boojum Tree in North Phoenix off of 36th Street. I was invited to this shoot by Brian Minson, a very talented wedding & sports photographer out of Pinetop, Arizona. What an amazing venue! It was better than I could have imagined.
I have to say, when I arrived I wondered what I was in for with this place which at first glance was more like an exotic plant nursery than a venue. The reason it feels like an exotic plant nursery is because it actually used to be an exotic plant nursery. How exciting is that?!
I had arrived early as usual, and started to set up my gear and get a feel for the place. I strolled around and really started to enjoy the seamless combination of relaxed and formal settings. The place is spotted with water features, including a couple of huge fountains complete with japanese goldfish. Also dotted around the place are wonderful pieces of art, most of which are of Mexican or Central American origin, and a few of which were made by the staff themselves! You could spend a lifetime here and never see all of the neat things there are to see. There are exotic trees overgrowing statues, a rusting steel eagle tending a small rusted chick in a nest, a creek that runs through the entire place, and a gigantic greenhouse which is shockingly cool and wonderfully decorated and lush.
The bride and groom were awesome, and it was an absolute pleasure to work here. I have to say, if I had to pick just one place to ever shoot again, this is one of my finalists for sure!
Here's a shot from that day. I hope you enjoy it!
